John Crampton, of Co. A, enrolled and mustered in Oct. 24, 1864 in Kendallville by Capt. Iddings as a Private at age 22. He was 5Œ 0 tall, fair complexion, hazel eyes, and light hair. Born Sep. 4, 1841 in Washingborough, Lincolnshire, England, employed as a farmer, single, resident of Pleasant Lake, in Steuben Co., IN. Mustered out at the end of the war Sep. 14, 1865 in Nashville, TN with rank of Private. Notes: Brother to Henry. Came to U.S. May 1850 on ship Eliza Ann. Substitute for Henry Bachtel of Waterloo, DeKalb Co., IN. Sent to hospital Aug. 22-29, 1865. He filed Invalid Pension Application to receive Pension Certificate #237322 Dec. 5, 1879. Married Amelia A. Shaver 1865. Resident of Pleasant Lake 1879 and 1893; of Steubenville 1898-1910; of Ashley 1911-1924. Died Jan 24, 1925; buried Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben Co., IN. Amelia filed Widowfs Pension Application to receive Widowfs Pension Certificate #960172 Feb. 19, 1925, in IN.
