Rusty was a rescue puppy. My son and I went to the pound to find a puppy, we were about to leave after not finding a breed we wanted when I saw this little thing with huge dark brown eyes all by herself in the hallway in a cage.
The people there said that was where they kept the dogs that were going to be euthanized.

We asked to see her out of the cage, she seemed perfect so we took her home.

She was a terrier mix with a sweet dispostion. She was great from the start, listened to commands, quick to learn and loved to play. She had these big floppy ears but she learned how to make them stand up, so when we said put your ears up she would.
She also loved to run and was the best running companion I ever had. I think she missed running the most in her old age.

She also taught herself how to catch a frizbee. My son could get her up so high to grab it and she would still land on her feet. She was so fast she would almost be waiting for the frizbee to get to her.

She was best friends with Frankie our Yorkie and her little companion of 8 years and before Frankie, Scruffy the Llasa Apso.

Rusty was one of those dogs that only come along once in a lifetime. She was my shadow and constant companion, always at my feet. She was almost fifteen years old and I and my family will miss her tremendously. She was a part of our family, our hearts are breaking that she is no longer here but I know she is free of pain and running again in the woods or jumping high to catch a frizbee.

She is buried in our backyard next to Allie Girl,
Scruffy and Charli Brown.

The Heart Of A Dog
It came to me that every time
I lose a dog they take a piece
of my heart with them,
and every new dog
who comes into my life
gifts me with a piece
of their heart.

If I live long enough,
all the compponents of
my heart will be dog,
and I will become as
generous and loving
as they are.
