He served through the regiment's participation in the Battles of 3rd Winchester, Fisher's Hill, and Cedar Creek in the Fall of 1864, and the final Union assaults in the Confederate lines at Petersburg, Virginia in April 1865. After the cessation of hostilities, he was promoted to Corporal on May 1, 1865. On June 21, 1865 he was transferred to Company I, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, which was being used essentially as a "holding" regiment to place soldiers awaiting mustered out. He was finally honorably discharged on July 11, 1865.
