DAMARISCOTTA - E. Thomas Payne, 80, a resident of Coves Edge in Damariscotta passed away March 20, 2006 after a long illness. Tom was born July 8, 1925 in Waterbury, Conn., the son of Frederick and Ella Hodgdon Payne. He was a graduate of Waldoboro High School, Class of 1943. On July 3, 1943 Tom enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a First Class Petty Officer until his honorable discharge on July 10, 1943 in Boston. For over 20 years, Tom was a purchasing agent at G.T.E. Sylvania in Waldoboro before taking early retirement in 1981. He was a member of the VFW Post #4525. He was predeceased by his father, Frederick Payne, former governor and U.S. Senator; mother, Ella Payne in 2004; wife, Eleanor Payne 2005; and grandson, Michael Durkee 2004. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Payne Brotherton and her husband, Bud of Augusta; son, Frederick G. Payne, II and his wife, Jean, of Camden; grandchildren, Thomas Durkee and his wife, Kim, of Waldoboro, Danica and Jonathan Payne of Camden, Derek Brotherton of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Brown of Winterport, Danielle Underhill of Portland, Zachary, Isaac and Kyle Durkee of Waldoboro, and Cameron Durkee of Bernard. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street, Waldoboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tom's memory to:
