Melida Ochoa died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000 at her Brownsville home.

She was a Brownsville native and a lifetime resident. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She retired as mortgage loan officer for Independent American Savings.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph G. Ochoa Jr. of Brownsville; two daughters, Margaret Ochoa Klapperich of Greenville, Va. and Anna Laura Ochoa Morales of Houston; two sons, Joseph G. Ochoa III of Edmond, Okla. and Mark Anthony Ochoa of New Baden, Ill.; four sisters, Marina Vera, Alicia Vera and Amanda Garcia, all of Brownsville, and Oralia Garcia of Austin; three brothers, Jesus Vera and Sigifredo Vera, both of Brownsville and Reynaldo Vera of Dallas; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard. Burial of the cremains will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, c/o Valley Baptist Medical Center, P.O. Box Drawer 2588, Harlingen, Texas 78551.

Funeral services are under the direction of Darling Mouser Funeral Home.
