He enlisted in Company C, 21st Regiment, Georgia Volunteers, Dole's Brigade on June 21, 1861 and served until injured in the battle at Plymouth, North Carolina on April 18, 1864. The wound, a gunshot to the right shoulder which ranged downward along the spinal column causing partial paralysis to his entire body. He applied in 1889 for a Pension which was granted each year until his death.
Following his death, his widow Mary Ann applied for a Widow's Pension in 1910. It is not known if it was granted.
