Mercedes "Cede" Schwering, 60, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, November 6,, 2011, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge.

Cedes wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m.. Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Brian Schwering will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.. at the funeral home. Private burial will be at a later date.

Mercedes Eileen Andrews was born on July 11, 1951, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of William and Loretta (Grossnickle) Andrews. she attended country school in Evanston. Cede was united in marriage to Leonard Joseph Schwering on August 5, 1967, in Webster City, Iowa. The couple established their home in Dayton where she worked as a cook at the Rusty Spur. She also cooked at Pee Wee's Other Place in Lehigh, before owning and operating Cede's Cafe in Dayton. Later, she provided in home daycare for her grandchildren. Leonard passed away on July 7, 2004.

Cede enjoyed cooking and keeping in touch with friends and family through facebook. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in her yard.

Survivors include her companion, LaMont Ferguson of Dayton, Iowa; three sons, William (Amy) Schwering of Callender, Iowa, Michael Schwering, and Brian (Amanda) Schwering, of Dayton, Iowa; grandchildren, Curtis (Connie), Damien, Randy, Shyla, Sammie, Ashli, Michael Jr., Natosha, Jazmine, Chelsie, Angelica, Dylan, Alex, Anastacia, Jonny, Condyn, Mariah, and Noah; great granddaughter, Kallie; and a great grandson, Adam, due in February of 2012; three brothers, Gary Andrews of Fort Dodge, Iowa, William (Judy) Andrews of Evanston, Iowa, and Narlan (Diane) Andrews of Kalo, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her parents; husband, Leonard Schwering; granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Schwering; and one brother, Keith Andrews, preceded her in death.
