J.C. Bird was born atop Green Mountain to Joseph Clark Bird and the former Miss Ina Florence McPeters. While J.C.'s initials likely stood for Joseph Clark (his father's name), his legal name was infact, "J.C."

J.C. married Etta Epsie Hinshaw on May 16, 1947, in Owens Cross Roads, Alabama. To this union was born two children - Donald Gene and Cathy LuJuan.

J.C. died in Orlando, Florida, where he was originally interred; however, after Epsie returned to Madison County with the rest of the Henshaw Family, J.C.'s remains were disinterred and brought to Alabama, where he was laid to rest in the Green Valley Cemetery.

He was the grandson of George Marshall Bird, patriarch of the Bird Family who settled in Big Cove in 1904.
