He immigrated to Louisiana in the 1850's, at which time the place of his birth, the village of Göcklingen bei Landau, was part of the Kingdom of Bavaria.

In America he used the English version (Frank) of his original German first name Franz.

His first wife was Emilie (changed later to Amelia) Anna Luise REICHOW Greidenweis Goodman, with whom he had a son Frank GREIDENWEIS Jr., who was raised by his mother and her second husband Joseph GOODMAN Sr.

After divorce, Frank Sr.'s second wife was Emma WIRTH Greidenweis, with whom he had a son Eugene GREIDENWEIS, who died in infancy 1876.

Last will and testament of Frank Greidenweis Sr.

Estate of Frank Greidenweis, deceased,
Will.

Know all men by these presents that I, Frank Greidenweis of the county of Travis and state of Texas, being in good health, and of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all wills by me at any time heretofore made.

1st I direct that all my just debts shall be paid.

2nd I give to my beloved wife Emma Greidenweis nee Wirth all of my estate, real, personal and mixed, whether in possession or expectancy and wherever situated.

3rd In making the will I have not forgotten a son, Frank Greidenweis Jr. by my former marriage with my divorced wife, and I have knowingly omitted giving anything to him as he has not recognized me for the last twenty (20) years as his father and at this time, he being about 27 years of age and I do not think I would know him should I meet him as he has never called to see me and speak to me, although living in the same town.

4th I constitute and appoint my beloved wife Emma Greidenweis, nee Wirth, sole executrix of this my will and direct that no security shall be required of her as executrix and that no other action shall be had in the county court in the matter of my estate than to prove and record this will.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 9th day of May A. D. 1898 in the presence of Chas. Schaffer and A. von Rosenberg who attest the same at my request. Frank Greidenweis

The above instrument was now here subscribed by Frank Greidenweis, the testator, in our presence, and we, at his request, and in his presence sign our names hereto as attesting witnesses. A. von Rosenberg, Chas. Schaffer.
