Gene was a veteran serving in the US Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents James E. Duke and Lennie Bennett Duke, brother James Duke and son Glen E. Duke.
He is survived by his children Debbie Plummer, Bubba Duke, Teresa (Don) Fisher, Jenny (Robert) Allen, Michelle (Marty) Southerland, brother Bill (Maxine) Duke and sister Carolyn Duke Ketchum.
He was blessed with sixteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons Howard Fey, Casey Fey, Charles Allen, Chet Allen Ethan Schaffer, Chase Southerland and his friend Chris Sylvis.
A memorial ceremony will be conducted on Saturday September 1, 2012 at 2pm in the Serenity Chapel Mausoleum in Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery.
