Shirley Brashers Harris was born August 28, 1926 in Springfield, Missouri to James W. and Geneva (Winfield) Chapman, and departed this earth on March 16, 2016, making her age 89 years 6 months and 17 days.
Shirley grew up in Pierce City, Missouri and graduated from Pierce City High School. Shirley married Kenneth Dale Brashers on November 10, 1946. To this union two sons were born: James Dale and Gary Wayne. Shirley loved spending time with Dale and going to the boys’ ballgames. To her children and grandchildren she was lovingly known as Shirley Girly. Later in life Shirley married Alfred Harris. They enjoyed going to the lake and traveling.
Shirley and Dale made their home in Summersville, Missouri where she lived for 63 years. Shirley worked selling Singer Sewing Machines for many years before becoming an EMT for the Summersville Ambulance Service. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Summersville and Eastern Star.
Shirley loved playing cards, making biscuits and gravy for her boys, and taking her great- grandkids out for ice cream after church on Sundays. She never left the house without her hair fixed and wearing her red lipstick and pretty earrings.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Dale and son James Dale; grandparents George and Chrissey Chapman and Noah and Sarah Winfield; parents James W. and Geneva Chapman; brother James A. Chapman; niece Deborah Jane Bass; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Gyneth Johnson; husband Alfred Harris; and grandson-in-law Leroy Wells.
Shirley is survived by son Gary and wife Paula of Fredericktown, Missouri; daughter-in-law Judith Brashers of Springfield, Missouri; sister Dora Jane and husband Leslie of Sarcoxie, Missouri; Linda Lee of Jefferson City, Missouri; sister-in-law Evelyn Chapman of Independence, Missouri; grandsons Jimmy Brashers and wife Carla of Summersville, Missouri; Justin Brashers of Summersville, Missouri; granddaughters Lisa Brock and husband Chris of Cedar Hill, Missouri; Wendy Callahan and husband John of Summersville, Missouri; Jessica Wolfe and husband Bob of Bucyrus, Missouri; nephews Gail Bass and wife Kim of Sarcoxie, Missouri; Ryan Lee of Jefferson City, Missouri; niece Melissa Lee of Jefferson City, Missouri; and 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
