David Byrd was the son of the late Homer and Clara Muckle Byrd. He was a veteran of the US Army during World War II. He retired from the maintenance department of the city of Kings Mountain. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lawndale.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; two sisters; and two daughters, Colene Guest and Mildred Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marie Coates Byrd of Lawndale; five daughters, Betty Bunch of Philadelphia, Christine Bradshaw of Gastonia, Linda Byrd, Debra Williams and Danette Poole, all of Lawndale; three sons, David Byrd Jr. of Kings Mountain, Bruce Edward Byrd of Lawndale and Melvin Byrd of Shelby; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ilene Coates Pounds of Philadelphia and Odessa Byrd of Lawndale; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
