Mary Elizabeth Bible was the daughter of John Murray & Rachel Harriet Dawson Bible. Mary was born in a community known as Chuckey Knobbs in Cocke County, Tennessee.

She married Edmond P. Smith; and to this union was born children - Walter Lee, Mona I., Jessie, Myrtle Lillian Beatrice, Rachel Obedience, Robert Crawford, Ottie Haskel, John Thomas, Gretchen Bernice, and Bruce Edward.

Mary is believed to have been part Cherokee Indian.

According to her death certificate, Mary died as a result of gangrene in her left leg, brought on by diabetes. She died in Erlanger Hospital at 3:30 a.m.

Mary was the granddaughter of Amos Dawson and Mary Black Dawson.
