Henrietta Abram was the daughter of Gottlieb and Wilhelmina(Minnie) Abram. She was born in what at the time was called Prussia in the German Empire. 'Henriette' arrived in the United States at the Port of New York in May 1903. Her final destination was Chicago and her passage was paid by her brother in law, Wilhelm Krause. Note: her family was told that she was born in Posen, Germany; however, in her Declaration of Intention in 1941, she states that she was born in 'Sympolno'(Sompolno) which became part of Poland after 1918.

On 23 September, 1905, Henrietta was married by a Lutheran minister to Emil Spletzer (1878-1935) in Chicago. They had two daughters born in Chicago and then in 1909, moved to the farming community of Engadine, Michigan, where they purchased 80 acres to farm. Henrietta eventually gave birth to seven more children. The family were members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, which until 1929, held all the services in German. She lived the remainder of her life in Michigan.

Henrietta became a naturalized citizen in January, 1945.

She was an excellent cook, a good singer and loved her garden, both vegetables and flowers.
