Bio

Many decades ago when I was little, I remember my grandfather taking me down a winding dirt road to the small family cemetery where his parents and other ancestors dating back to before the Civil War were buried. He would tell me his memories and stories he had been told about our relatives buried there. Even as a child, this was fascinating to me and really brought home the fact that we were visiting actual people, not just names and dates on a stone. They were not actually forgotten once they were passed on from this world.

My profile is solely for the purpose of making sure these old cemeteries are documented and remembered. It is my goal to help others in my home state to find their ancestors and to get active in caring for the at risk graveyards in their communities! Forgotten or abandoned cemeteries are unfortunately a reality in every Alabama county, but that doesn't mean they need to be lost permanently. I do my best, but please reach out to me with researched information and I'll be happy to update the memorial. Transfers are highly encouraged if you're a family member or if you've taken a picture of the grave and request it. It's my goal to make my profile unnecessary by the memorials I manage being transferred to family members or other FG members who have located and photographed these old graves; at that point the cemetery will no longer be forgotten. Let's work together to make sure all of our ancestors are remembered!
