The Ridgefield Cemetery is on top of Packard's Hill looking out to the east at three mountains: Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Adams. The mighty Columbia River flows to the west far below. The Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge borders the Columbia River. The Cathlapootle Plankhouse project, part of the CONFLUENCE PROJECT celebrating the Lewis and Clark Bi-centennial, is built on the Refuge. Lewis and Clark stayed in Ridgefield, camping with over 1,200 Chinookan Native American Indians in Ridgefield over 200 years ago. Ridgefield retains it small town flavor as it grows by leaps and bounds. Ridgefield High School's mascot is the Spudder. Ridgefield Spudders honor their farming roots at the annual Heritage Day, the Fourth of July Celebration, and Birdfest. The city of Ridgefield is along Interstate 5 (I-5) on the Discovery Corridor that connects Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington, fourteen miles north of Vancouver Washington.
