History:
Berea Church and Cemetery are located in Cooper County near the Pettis County line. Its' one acre site was a family burying ground for the family of Isaiah Cornine since 1854, the date on the oldest stone. It was known as Lost Corner because it was "lost" from the original surveys, overlooked by accident. Thus, when the church was built it was called Lost Corner Church. Shackelford School, directly west across the road, was likewise called Lost Corner School.
Everyone buried here is a Cornine by birth or by marriage or related to a family member, except for the Zimmerman graves. They were church members. Also, excepting the two Negro women who worked for the Cornine family and are buried in the family cemetery.
The black fence at the enterance was made by W&M Welding of Sedalia, and the fence was from Sears. My Grandpa J.R. & Betty Ethel "Kresiel" Cornine had installed the fence here. My Grandma has also setup burial plots with a map in this cemetery for the past, current, and future Cornine family members. My Grandma and Janice Pummill (The Current Secretary) has this book in their possession. It has just been updated as of August 18, 2010.
Susan Dial currently does the mowing and maintains the Cemetery. She lives on the same road leading up to the Cemetery.
President - Delmar Ray Cornine
Secretary/Treasurer - Janice "nee Cornine" Pummill (My Grandma was the prior Secretary/Treasurer)
