It is in Keweenaw County, Grant Township, T59N, R28W Section 32.
*Update*: The cemetery seems to be in better condition. We took a full size conversion van into the cemetery this time and did well. I advise pulling straight in, going up the hill and going around the cemetery this way. We came down the other hill very slowly but it was better than to try going up it.
Note: This is a very old cemetery and the original stones are located on a very sharp incline with fencing around them. This cemetery is accessible by car but the inclines are very steep and can be dangerous. Do NOT go into this cemetery in anything larger than an SUV. My last trip to this cemetery was made in an SUV and it was dangerous to take the inclines.
Copper Harbor Cemetery is said to be the oldest cemetery in Michigan that is still in operation. Visitors can locate this area on the west side of Highway U.S. 41, just outside of Copper Harbor, before it joins Highway M-26. The cemetery received it's first occupant in December 1853, Mrs. Sarah Broughton. Prior to this date burials were at Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor, Michigan.
