The DALSTORP CEMETERY is a very rural cemetery that has been known by a variety of names during its 130+ year history. You may find it listed as; DAHLSTORP, DALE MISSION COVENANT, COVENANT MISSION, or DALE COVENANT CEMETERY.
A detailed history of the Dalstorp Cemetery was published in the July 1, 2008 issue of the , a Cambridge, MN newspaper. This article was written by staff writer Benjamin Sobieck.
The Free Mission Church Congregation was founded by a groups of the early settlers in the Dalstrop area and fore several years conducted services and Sunday School in the family homes. In 1893 they built a small church close to the center of section 7 and also laid out a cemetery in back of the church. Some of the founders of the congregation were Gustaf and Robert Stake, August Lund, Andrew Skoglin, John Bergstrom, Oscar Nelson and Abram and Olaf Olson.
The membership of this congregation dwindled to the point that in about 1910 Sunday services and Sunday School was discontinued. There are about 50 burials in the cemetery that adjoined the church. Most of these are from among the charter members of this congregations.
In 1937 the church building was dismantled and shipped by railroad to Funkley, Minnesota, a small town north of Black Duck, where a congregation there had suffered the loss of their church by fire.
Years later it was discovered the cemetery had been neglected and been overgrown. The problem was brought to the attention of the county commissioners and its management was assigned to the local township board. I found the cemetery to be well maintained during my recent visits (2009 & 2010).
All visible markers have been photographed and posted. It is possible there are unmarked graves in this cemetery. Church and/or sexton records have not been located or reviewed as of 1-Sep-2012.
