The Brothers of the Poor of St. Francis Seraph arrived in Cincinnati in 1837. The brothers first ran a home for boys in the basin area of Cincinnati. In 1869, the brothers purchased a 106 acre estate in Delhi, which they named Mount Alverno. The boys home became the Protectory for Boys, or, as commonly known, Mount Alverno School. The school existed from 1871 to 1972, when it was demolished after sale of the land for a housing development. The school has a USGS NGIS feature ID of 1043533. Its location has been used for the cemetery map location. Mount Alverno was a nearly self-sufficient community with an operating farm and residences. The graves of the brothers that were on the property were moved to Saint Joseph New Cemetery.
