The sound of rain on a tin roof has caused a Bourbon County log house to be lived in once again. The home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. SPARKS was a two story dogtrot house on Stoner Creek three-fourths mile from North Middletown, in a section called Thatchers Mill, and was bought by Mrs. SPARKS's father. It was without upstairs floorboards and doors and window frames and was used for hay storage. The house was built by SAMUEL TALBOTT. He and his two wives are buried on a natural terrace below the house. Mrs. SPARKS took refuge there during a storm, the rain was falling on a tin roof and she thought 'This is the old house you've been looking for'." This article tells of the remodeling period and included pictures of the interior. Bourbon County historian, Mrs. W. H. WHITLEY, great-granddaughter of SAMUEL TALBOTT, thought the house might have been built by SAMUEL, in 1811, for his first wife, ANN LEACH. "History of the Lander Family of Virginia and Kentucky by David Lander with Additions and Corrections by Peggy Roberta Brown Chapman in co-operation with Alice Evelyn Freeman Hills"
