The Agee Cemetery was started during the Civil War.
Agee Cemetery is situated on a hillside overlooking Ruth, MO. The village of Ruth, MO was situated in a narrow valley. Rugged pine bearing hills completely surrounded the village. Scattered along the valley were the cabins of its citizens. The community burial place was on a hillside a short distance from the village. All the evidence one can see of the once thriving village are the foundations of buildings, and dim outlines of the road to the cemetery. In the area was a grist mill, sawmill and post office. Samuel Agee's home and sawmill was nearby with Agee being first postmaster of Ruth, MO November 1, 1869. The cemetery is not far from Saltpeter cave and Agee Spring (also called Big Spring). A descendant of the Agee family, Verda (Agee) Robertson, said the Big Spring area once was a busy and lively place.
