McMurray Family Cemetery
Madison County, Arkansas, USA
This cemetery has NO markers with names on them, but each grave is marked only with a fieldstone. The McMurray family "deeded" 3 acres for the cemetery, which is recorded in the Madison County Courthouse, however at this time the cemetery has been destroyed and a cow lot has been built on it with a couple of cross-fences going through it. The 3 acre tract lies in Section 25, Township 17 North, Range 26 West, and up until the 1940's the cemetery had a nice fence around it.
To find the cemetery, from Huntsville go East on Business 412 to the intersection with Highway 412 (by a gas station known as the 412 Express); continue East on 412 for about 1/2 mile. You will see a little building on your right, with a farm road going over a cattleguard. (If you come to the bridge across War Eagle River, you have missed the road) You must go across this cattleguard, through the field, past the cow lot and several barns to reach the cemetery. The graves are located in a grove of trees between two cross-fences. In 2006, several of the trees had died and were piled upon the fieldstone markers.
This cemetery is on private property and you should obtain permission from the landowner before entering their farm.
