Bronte Pioneer Cemetery is located on the east side of Bronte Street North, north of Victoria St, in the Town of Milton. It is not to be confused with Bronte Cemetery in Oakville, which is a totally different cemetery.
Bronte Pioneer Cemetery is associated with the area's earliest pioneers. Among these was town founder Jasper Martin who was buried in the cemetery upon his death in 1833. He owned the plot of land on which the cemetery is located.
A wrought iron fence was constructed around the cemetery in 1928. During the 1950s, many of the headstones were moved to Evergreen Cemetery in Milton. However, other headstones remained.
In 1984, the Milton Historical Society carried out work to preserve the old headstones. They cleaned up the property, recovering the stones and placing them in a permanent concrete pad. Those stones that could stand erect were re-set.
In 2004, the property was designated for its heritage value under the Ontario Heritage Act. It is closed for burials.
