Hamm Cemetery
Also known as Thomas Cemetery
Washington Court House, Fayette County, Ohio, USA
It was supposed to have been located in Union Township, on Paint Creek, just "west" of Chillicoth Road (county highway 140) and "south" of Robinson Road (county highway 141). This places it south-east of present day Washington Court House, OH. Perhaps a local resident can provide more accurate information.
The obituary for Mary (EGGERS) THOMAS (wife of Benjamin THOMAS and daughter-in-law of John THOMAS listed within), tells us that John's first wife Catharine was buried not far from where her body was found on the edge of Paint Creek. That same obituary tells us that John was buried next to her on the Thomas Homestead. Reportedly, a portion of the gravestone was recovered by the local historical society and "given to" a relative.
I do not know why this cemetery was named Hamm since it seems that the burials were on the Thomas homestead. Perhaps like at least one other cemetery I know, the name has changed depending on the current owner of the land. Given that there are a number of Thomas Cemeteries in Ohio, I will keep this one named as Hamm to differentiate it from the rest and keep it aligned with the source materials that reference it.
If you have more information regarding this cemetery, please contact the creator of the memorial for John Thomas b. Oct. 16, 1751 listed within.
The cemetery is located in Union Township, Fayette County, Ohio, and is # 3421 (Hamm Cemetery / Thomas Cemetery) in "Ohio Cemeteries 1803-2003", compiled by the Ohio Genealogical Society.
