This small cemetery is overgrown but still protected by a fence. Only two stones are visible, but there is space for several more burials.
James Kerfoot and Amelia (Crisman) Carter owned this land at the time of their deaths and may be buried here, as no other burial site has been found for them. James Kerfoot Carter died during the Civil War and some sources say he was shot by bushwackers.
Additionally, some sources say Joseph Elza Richeson (1825-1863) was executed by Union forces and buried here, but the accuracy of this is not known. There is a "In Memory Of" stone for him in Huntsville City Cemetery.
If anyone has further information about this cemetery, please let me know. Thanks!
UPDATE: I went back to this cemetery in April 2011 and was able to locate two more engraved stones, those of James Kerfoot Carter & his daughter, Mary E V Carter. Another grave, marked with a fieldstone and a broken jar vase was found between the two engraved headstones, and may be Amelia's grave.
