About 1840, Elijah Trapnell moved his family from Burke County to Emanuel County and built a home on Yam Grandee Creek south of Nunez, where he operated a sawmill and grist mill. He owned approximately 3000 acres of land at his death.
He was buried on his farm in a clump of trees in a field, according to William Trapnell (in 1999), who pointed out the site.
