The Smallpox Cemetery is located off Tanner Marsh Road in the Clapboard Hill area of Guilford, CT. It was deeded to the Madison Historial Society in 1949 and is maintained by that organization. The cemetery, which is enclosed by a stone fence, is small and secluded and is accessible only by guided tour during selected months. There may be eight or nine people who died from this disease buried in this cemetery, as Guilford had a quarantine policy, and smallpox victims were not allowed to be interred in the town's cemetery.
