Powell Cemetery at the North Carolina/South Carolina state line near Lake View. This is the home cemetery of the Nicholas Powell family, who came across the state line from Robeson County, NC. It is not shown on the USGS topographical maps, not in the GNIS database, and not on any other maps of the area.
In 2000 when I made the original survey (with the landowner's permission) there were three intact stone markers with inscriptions. There are at least two other stones, maybe more, broken into small pieces. And there is one wooden marker with no inscription. The cemetery at that time was overgrown with weeds and briars and it is possible I overlooked a marker.
Since 2002 the owner of the farm has cleared off the cemetery, stood leaning stones, and just made a beautiful place of the old cemetery once more.

Adjacent to a field road, 1/10 mile south of intersection with Fair Bluff Road at the state line; not on maps. On lands purchased in 1829 by Nicholas Powell, on or near the upper part of a 1770 tract granted to Robert Jones* that Thomas Davis and Ezekiel Adams made a dividing line through; later owned by William Ward who sold part in 1810 to James Faulk; Faulk to John Page, to Daniel Townsend, to Nicholas Powell in 1829. John Thompson, Lydia Thompson, and Sarah Page (wife of Solomon Page) all released their interest in this tract at various times. *Bear Swamp Baptist Church site is part of that same 1770 grant to Robert Jones. (Marion County SC Deed Books F/27, 37, 46; O/71, 73; S/38; T/305.)
