Tennessee, on a farm on the south side of the Red River near Clarksville.
He was married Sarah D. Hawkins in Christian County, Kentucky. The family
first lived in Christian County but they also lived for a while in Trigg
County. They always lived near the community of Cerulean Springs. Six of
their eight sons were born there. They appropriated a large farm on
Wade's Creek in Marshall County in the 1850s.
The Watkins homestead about three miles east of old
Wadesboro, the thriving county seat of Calloway County. Their farm house
was located on a wooded hill overlooking Wade's Creek just west of the
present site of Hardin. Samuel died there and was buried in a family plot
about 100 yards west of the old Benton-Murray Road, now Kentucky highway
1824. It is behind the current residence of Joe Hart Wilson.
In 1987 some family members
started a project to recognize several family members that were known to
be buried there. A new marker was installed
