Find this cemetery by entering from Lowell Tannery Road towards the Summit (Lowell, Penobscot Co., Me). After climbing the first hill, you see a homestead and garage on the left. Proceed up the next hill. This road is part ledge. At the top, a small camp is to your right. Just past this, you will see a driveway. Another camp is here and McClain Cemetery is to the camps left side. People have fenced it in and do keep it mowed. Several stones are either missing or the grave never had one.
The location of this cemetery within the T1 North Division Summit Twp was once called Deanfield which was organized 1840. It was designated as Plantation 1 North Division Bingham Purchase; later reorganized in 1892 as Summit Plantation. After 1840 it was called Summit Plantation. [See Stuarts Maps of Timberlands of Maine No 3 1885].
Today [2021] the area is still within an unorganized territory T1 North Division, sometimes also referred to as East Central Penobscot, an area that includes the townships of Summit, Grand Falls, and Greenfield.
