Dixon-Marshall Hill Cemetery
Fallsville, Newton County, Arkansas, USA
Most of the graves were originally located about 1 1/2 miles northwest of this location on a triangle piece of land between where Reeves Fork Creek (aka Loafer Fork) runs into the Buffalo River. Many of the graves were Civil War era and evidently the triangle piece of land where the graves were located began to erode away, so in the early 1890's Tom Marshall and John Dixon moved about 8 of the graves to this location and reburied the remains here. The Forest Service files on this cemetery contains a letter written by Joe Durham who was born in 1884 and grew up in the area. Joe Durham's letter talks about the relocation of the graves and in part says, "There was never many bodies buried here in the first place, I would say from 6 to 10 but maybe not that many. The bones of the elder Marshall (Tom's father); plus twin babies of Mary Jane and Daley Mathis; Grandma Mathis (mother of Jess); Daley Mathis; Mary and Lucy Welch; and a Darkus daughter are all buried there."
