Price Cemetery is north west of, and is adjacent to Cold Springs Cemetery.
There are no visible markings separating the two cemeteries and many people incorrectly assume that this area is part of Cold Springs.
There are many memorials on Find A Grave that indicate Cold Springs Cemetery, when in fact the burial was in Price Cemetery.
Price Cemetery is shaped roughly like a triangle. It is bordered by Cold Springs Road on the west, the railroad tracks on the north and Cold Springs Cemetery on the east.
Specifically, if you drive north on Cold Springs Road approaching the bridge over the railroad tracks, Price Cemetery is the last part of the cemetery you pass before crossing the bridge.
It's somewhat difficult to get a good photograph of Price Cemetery. There are no clear boundaries, nor is there a sign indicating the name of the cemetery.
Strangely, if you stand on the shoulder of Cold Springs Road facing north where you can read the historic marker indicating "COLD SPRINGS CEMETERY - JESSE HAWLEY, WHO FIRST ADVOCATED BUILDING ERIE CANAL IN 1805 IS BURIED HERE - FRIEND OF DEWITT CLINTON" you are actually facing Price Cemetery.
If you can see the concrete retaining wall for Cold Springs Road you are standing in Price Cemetery.
I encourage anyone looking for a gravestone in this cemetery to check Cold Springs Cemetery.
In 1983 Florence Smith of Lockport meticulously recorded and indexed the gravestone inscriptions in Price Cemetery.
She recorded the lot number where each gravestone was located and she typed an alphabetic index of all names.
She typed an alphabetic list of all lot owners whose names appeared on the cemetery map.
Her research is preserved at the Niagara County Historian's office located at 139 Hawley Street in the City of Lockport.
Florence was a volunteer at the County Historian's office. She assisted me, and many others over the years.
Unfortunately I never discussed Price Cemetery with her because I was more interested in Cold Springs Cemetery at the time.
In the meantime she passed away.
The Niagara County Historians office allowed me to make copies of her research.
In 2016 volunteers at Cold Spring Cemetery began clearing brush and debris in the cemetery along the retaining wall for Cold Springs Road. They uncovered many long neglected gravestones (which are actually in Price Cemetery).
I began listing Price Cemetery gravestones on Find-a-Grave (some of which I discovered were already listed as being in Cold Springs Cemetery).
Florence Smith's research proved to be crucial because she located and recorded some gravestones in 1983 that I can't find in 2016. Perhaps they were carted off by vandals, or are since covered by grass and debris.
In some isolated cases I found gravestones in 2016 that she missed in 1983, but for the most part her research is flawless.
The history of Price Cemetery is somewhat of an enigma. I've found it mentioned that it was at one time called "Pleasant Cemetery".
There is a big PRICE family lot (see Daniel Price). I assume the PRICE family has something to do with the name of the cemetery.
The cemetery has been maintained by the staff of Cold Springs Cemetery for many years.
In the office of Cold Springs Cemetery there is one old hand drawn map of Price Cemetery. The map shows the lot owner(s) name and lot number. The map is difficult to read, but nonetheless it's a valuable tool to navigate around the cemetery. I have not located any written record of lot owners.
