Add PhotosConsisting of lots 44, 46, & 48 (66 feet X 165 feet) between Front & Water Streets in downtown Lewisburg, facing Market Street. Originally conveyed by Ludwig Derr to both the Presbyterian Congregation and Thomas Procter in 1785; Procter later conveying lot 48 to William Perry Brady who conveyed it to the Congregation in 1802 because burials had mistakenly been made on it.
In July of 1849 the Lewisburg Cemetery Company purchased six acres from John Chamberlin on the western limit of the borough to be used as a "city" cemetery. Burials however were already being made on these six acres as Andrew & George Alexander Hutchison, children of Alexander Hutchison had been removed to Chamberlins six acres on Oct. 11, 1848. Over the next decade or so, The Old Grave Yard gradually lost many of it's inhabitants.
There are still quite a few burials on the grounds of the Old Grave Yard, despite there being no tombstones to mark the graves. James Fleming Linn, collected the old tombstones of those not moved to the new cemetery in the cellar of the church during the 1850's. What happened to them since is unknown but there were still some there in the 1870's.
