In 1802 the German Presbyterians (later known as the German Reformed Church) established a school on lot no. 125 on St. Louis Street in Lewisburg, which they also used as a house of worship. The necessity of a cemetery soon arose and lot no. 123 next to the school was quickly acquired for that purpose. The Reformed Church, in union with the Lutheran congregation, would use this cemetery for close to 50 years.

The opening of Lewisburg Cemetery in 1849 gave the congregation incentive to expand their church and parsonage onto the old cemetery lot. The cemetery was now being cleared of burials as families moved their dead to the new cemetery. A portion of the old cemetery has never been built upon by the church or it's parsonage and no doubt still contains the remains of some of it's original inhabitants; though no tombstones remain on the property.

No list was ever kept of burials in this cemetery or of those that were removed to the new cemetery; so burials listed here are therefore partially speculative. Linn's Annals of Buffalo Valley was used to determine those who were buried here and transcriptions of burials in Lewisburg Cemetery were used to determine if someone is now in that cemetery. If someone is not listed in Lewisburg Cemetery, it's possible their remains are still in the German Grave Yard.
