Taplin Pond Cemetery
Stephentown, Rensselaer County, New York, USA
The name for the pond is evidently an old one:
"NOTICE is hereby given, that application will be made to the legislature of this state, now in session, for an act of incorporation to make a turnpike road, beginning at or near the village of Alps, or Isaac Dunham's in the town of Nassau, to run from thence southeeasterly to intersect the Nassau and Stephentown turnpike in the neighborhood of Taplin's Pond or Mesick Straight's, in Stephentown"
Daily Albany Argus. March 1, 1833: 4 col 2.
"Probably few Trojans have heard of Taplin's Pond. Yet with its wild surroundings and background of steep, high, rocky, timbered hills it is one of the most picturesque of the 65 lakes in the county. Its approach is attractive, a grove of splendid pines along the pine needle floor of which winds a grass-covered lane. It is a lake favored by the fishermen of the countryside, though the city fishermen are generally unfamiliar with it. Its swampy shores are still untouched by the bungalow builder or summer colonist, though shelter poles and stone fireplaces attest its popularity with picknickers."
"Rensselaer County Rambles No. 28-Taplin's Pond." Troy Times. April 30, 1927: 9 col 3.
