Add PhotosJosiah Root donated the land where the cemetery was located to the La Porte County Commissioners on June 12, 1852 as a public cemetery forever. Over the years as the property was sold it was noted in the sale papers "Except the graveyard".
The son of the property owners in 1991 removed the gravestones and plowed the cemetery over. It was known for a while of one stone that was kept in a barn, this stone was engraved with a weeping willow tree and the name Nancy. This stone can no longer be found.
Another Root family member buried in the cemetery was Miranda Root Ransom she was possibly the first burial. Miranda was referred to as "Mariah my deceased daughter" in Josiah's Will.
Because no burial records for this cemetery can be found and it cannot be determined how many more were buried here or their names. No visible signs of the cemetery can be found.

A big thank you to Gloria D. Arndt and Patricia Gruse Harris because of all their hard work and research. I was able to find where my 3x's great grandmother and her daughter was buried.
