The History of the Antioch Baptist Church
The written records of the first organization of this church are obsolete; therefore, all information related to its origin is secured from memories and traditions of that period.
Many slaves found life to be not only physically difficult, but spiritually devoid of hope in the future. In spite of these difficulties, some found refuge and peace through their faith in God. These persons sought to designate a particular time and place to worship.
Their first meeting was held in 1867. We regret we have no names of our early founders and loyal worshipers, yet we believe God was with them as others witnessed the strength derived from God through the worship services, to participate. They continued to worship until their place of worship was destroyed by fire in 1901, but with the help of God and the determination of its members, the church was rebuilt in 1902.
