Prospect Cemetery
Pasco County, Florida, USA
On 28 APR 1888 David Osburn, Jr., and wife Sarah "Sally" Kersey Osburn donated two acres west of, and adjoining, the Williamson-donated property to the trustees of Prospect Methodist Episcopal Church South, described thus: Commencing 220 yards North of the South East corner of the South East quarter of the North East quarter of Section Thirteen (13) Township Twenty five (25) South of Range Twenty (20) East. Thence West 70 yards. Thence North 140 yards. Thence East 70 yards. Thence South 140 yards to the place of beginning according to United States survey in State of Florida (Pasco County, Florida, Deed Record Book 7, page 108).
The Prospect Methodist Church and Prospect Cemetery were located here. Services at the Prospect Methodist Church were discontinued in the 1940s and the church building was dismantled. The cemetery remained until circa 1961, when some — but not all — of the graves were moved to nearby Williams Cemetery, after which Propect Cemetery was destroyed. The site of the destroyed cemetery (latitude 28.3130 longitude -82.2543) is northwest of the current (2019) intersection of Prospect and Handcart roads.
Osburn family members have said that Early Osburn's grave was the first at Prospect Cemetery, having been moved there from the family's homestead. While the number of, and names of, those remaining at Prospect Cemetery is unknown, they include Early Osburn, Eugenia Osburn Howell, and two infant sons of Eugenia Osburn Howell.
