When you travel on the N11 from Newcastle to Ladysmith, you will come to the Elandslaagte turnoff on your left. It is approximately 20 km outside Ladysmith. take the turnoff and travel until your reach the signpost. Turn right at the sign, and follow the signs toward Memorial Gate entrance to Nambiti reserve. You will see the Hollander memorial on the hill to your left, and you might see Scott-Chisholme's Memoral on the hill to the right, but you would have to step out of your vehicle and follow the trail. On top of the hill you can look towards Ladysmith in the direction the British Army came from. On the right, on the other side of the N11, you will see Jojono Hill, where the Boer guns were at first. A good map is essential.
The cemetery was established after the battle of Elandslaagte on 21 Oct 1899 during the Second Anglo Boer War, when British troops defeated Boer forces commanded by General Jan Kock. British troops killed in the battle were buried in the cemetery
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission advises that caution should be exercised at this cemetery. The Anglo-Boer war graves were vandalized in 2020 and the CWGC believes there may still be criminal activity in the area.
