Add PhotosExcavations by the York Archaeological Trust in 2012 and 2014 have revealed the site of All Saints Peasholme to have been "in the heart of the former Hay Market." The church was near the Black Swan inn, which still exists as a public house. Believed to have been established around 1200, All Saints in the Marsh, as it was called, was merged with St. Cuthbert's around 1550, its ruins being demolished in the 1730s. Excavations in 1986 proved that little remains of the church's foundations. During the recent excavation, 750 burials were uncovered, the remains being those of men, women, and children, the latter comprising 20% of the total. Some areas of the churchyard are thought to have been family plots.
