"Fredens bolig," or "Graven" as it is often called, is a park on Stølen in Bergen, northeast of the Mariakirken. It is located just north of Krohnengen School, between Ladegårdsgaten (W) and Krohnengsgaten (E) in the Bergenhus district.
The name derives from the "assistenskirkegården" (assistance cemetery) for Korskirken's parish (Sandviken) which was established in 1809. Swedish prisoners of war were sent from Eastern Norway to take part in the preparation of the cemetery, which had room for 2,200 graves. When the municipality bought Krohnengen in 1866, it was considered to expand "Fredens bolig" so that it could become a burial ground for the entire city. The cemetery was in use until 1928, and was formally closed as a burial ground in 1968 with the last of these tombs being removed that year.
According to Bergen church books, about 1,500 burials are registered in "Fredens bolig."
The park as it is today was laid out in 1985. The park was partially renovated in 2012, and during 2022 the park will be further upgraded.
