Mother African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church Burial Ground (Defunct).

Burial Ground for the AME Zion Church Congregation from 1807 to 1823. Burials where originally in Vaults under the original AME Zion Church (est. 1800) on the corner of Leonard & Church Street from c. 1802-1807.

In 1807 burials in the Vaults stopped and inhumations started at the Burial Ground. Land was arranged and set aside/or bought in the New Potters Field (Now Washington Square Park) for Zion's own burials. Zion used this ground from 1807 to 1823.

Burials where not removed or reinterned in 1825 when this land was reclaimed for public use for urban green space. Zion burials as well as the City's (2nd) Potter's Field remain under this park.
