The Quarantine Station was situated at present day North White Cliffs, just south of Bun Bun Creek.
An Aboriginal mission was originally established at this location (Balarrgan) in 1870.
In 1873 the Queensland Government moved the mission and established the Quarantine Station to serve the needs of the Port of Maryborough, which was receiving thousands of diggers heading for the Gympie goldfields, along with immigrants from England.
The Quarantine Station was abandoned in 1897, and the Aboriginal mission was briefly revived at the site.
Some Maryborough residents claimed that the beach at White Cliffs had been "a favourite resort for pleasure parties for over 20 years" and weren't happy with the Aboriginal mission being re-established. Within months, the White Cliffs mission was closed and transferred to Bogimbah Creek.
The exact number of non-Aboriginal burials at the Quarantine Station is uncertain.
