Add PhotosThe Saint-Laurent Chapel was also known as the Mass house. It was located between the villages of LeBlanc and Beaulieu (neither exist today). Please see the attached map for the estimated location.
There are 17 burial records in the Registers of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Port-Roy, 1702-1755, that specifically mention burials in this cemetery. This is not a complete record of all of the burials for the area, since most of the burial records did not include the exact burial location.
When Fort Port-Royal was surrendered in 1710, the fort chapel was turned into a barracks for New England troops. The fort parishioners then worshipped in the Saint-Laurent Chapel and also buried their dead either in the cemetery attached to this church, at the cemetery of the Cross, or elsewhere. The locations of those burials are not specifically stated on their burial records.
Nothing remains of the Saint-Laurent Chapel or its cemetery. There are no headstones or grave markers.
