This photo was taken on 3/20/2012. The Plains Hocking Cemetery is the actual name on the sign although everyone just calls it The Plains Cemetery. It is very small and is located next to Athens High school on Johnson Road on The Plains. There were trees surrounding the cemetery until the summer of 2012 when a tornado wiped out most of the trees on the left side, now the school is visible . Many of the graves are very old and you can no longer read the etchings but I have taken some pictures of the very old ones and will try to see if I can add more of the headstones soon. Some of the headstones were actually made of sandstone and most of those have crumbled to almost nothing.
