Showing a small part of Section I, the oldest section, of this cemetery. Most of the oldest burials were buried "with their feet to the east, so that on the sounding of the resurrection trumpet, they would rise from their graves and face the rising sun".
As you can see from the pictures, this is a remarkable old cemetery, still in great use today. It is extremely well kept, very serene & beautiful. It covers 20 acres in the heart of downtown Lexington. This Section I is located at N. State Street & Third Street, from the brick wall to the 1st driveway to the north.

Section II, between the center driveways in the walled section and ending at the Field House at Salem Street.

This monument marks the spot of the center of the original Lexington City Cemetery. It lies in Section II, next to the driveway separating it from Section I.
