The Thompson Cemetery near Florence, SC covers an area at least the size of a city block. This is the back section in the northwest corner, where the oldest tombstones are located. Most of the markers are fairly new, but the cemetery itself is quite old. It is on lands that belonged to James Thompson by the 1790s. There are no early Thompson markers here, but it was almost certainly the burial ground for the family of James Thompson. I did a full transcription and photographic survey of the Thompson Cemetery in 2004-2006. There were a couple of overgrown areas I could not access to hunt for markers, just as some markers in the more recent survey may have been somehow overlooked. Anyone wishing to search the earlier survey will find them on CD at the Florence County Library and at the Marion County Archives and History Center.
