Endresen Cemetery
Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, USA
The Guri and Lars Endreson/Endresen cabin was built by Lars Endreson Rosseland, a Norwegian emigrant and Minnesota pioneer and farmer. He and his wife Guri settled on the homestead in 1857. Lars hewed the timbers and cut the dovetail notches for their new home himself. In the years following, he and his wife cultivated their farm land and a garden, kept livestock, and improved their home and land. On August 18, 1862, the US-Dakota War erupted. In their isolated location, Guri and Lars were unaware of the conflict, and were surprised by hostile Dakota at their home on August 21. Lars and their son Endre were killed. Guri and their son Ole survived. Their home was purchased by the Kandiyohi County Historical Society in 1962 and restored by the Ekeberg Foundation. The site and cabin are now on the National Register of Historic Places.
The family is often referred to by the last name of Endreson. However, the surname of Lars was actually Rosseland. His full name was Lars Endreson Rosseland. Lars and Endre were buried on the site near the cabin.
