Funeral services for William L. ‘Bill' Henderson, 86, long time resident of the Wagoner area were held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Nov. 2 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with Pastor Lawrence Gann officiating. Bill was born August 28, 1926 in Cherokee County to his parents, William Lawrence and Lillian Oliver (Gott) Henderson. He grew up in the Ray Community in western Cherokee County and farmed with his family before enlisting into the U.S. Navy. Bill served over 21 years throughout Asia and the Pacific. After retirement, he returned home and worked for several years as a barber in the Luellen Barber Shop in downtown Wagoner. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and attended the First Freewill Baptist Church in Wagoner for many years. Bill was a great sports fan, especially baseball and always loved to play his guitar and sing with friends. He passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Geneva and Wanda and a daughter, Sharon Jo. He is survived his wife, June of the home; his children, James ‘Jim' Henderson and wife, Mary of Welling, OK, Janet Skinner and husband, Fred of Wagoner, Linda Gonino and husband, John of Rockwall, TX; step-children, Christina Welch and husband, Harold and Linda Miller and husband, Ricky all of Wagoner; two brothers, W.J. Jack Henderson and wife, Laureen of Coweta and Omer Henderson and wife, Myrna of Rose, OK; two sisters, Cherry Heaton of Wagoner and Kathryn Horn of Mutual, OK; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers were Lance Hinson, Cole Purget, Tyler Cline, Jake Hinson, Nick Henderson and Heath Welch. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Shade, Jason Fortner, John Gonino and Ron Hinson. Military rites were performed by the U.S. Navy and the American Legion Honor Guard, Post 56. Funeral arrangements and interment in the National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK were directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
